Follow-up to Wikipedia categorization story

WikipediaGlobeA couple weeks ago, the New York Review of Books published a post providing further detail on the story about Wikipedia categories labeling authors as “female.” As we wrote about that story at the time, the follow-up offered some interesting insight. Essentially the changing of categories and moving of various authors to specifically female categories was entirely the work of one Wikipedia editor: a history student at Wayne State University.

Although other editors have since merged categories, such as “American women novelists,” so as to include all American novelists in the same category, regardless of gender, the NY Review of Books post notes that the lone editor was still at work moving others to female-specific categories. Keep an eye on this story!
